Physical Tolerance Gene Testing

Physical Tolerance Gene Testing

Athlete genetics can be divided into two categories in terms of biochemical status:

  • Skill-Related Genes
  • Physical Tolerance Genes

Genes for physical tolerance indicate the body's ability to tolerate certain types of exercise and other factors that impair the body's function (e.g. air pollution, pollutants, an inflammatory diet).

The younger these genes are identified, the more likely a young person is to choose a sport that suits their genes. For example, an individual may become good at short-duration sports, but the genes of physical tolerance are not suited to continuous, long-term performance. Even with a wealth of sporting skills, performance will not remain at its peak without more individualised physical training.

The more weak physical tolerance genes an athlete has, the more individualised the physical training should be and the more emphasis should be placed on different recovery factors. Once these things are in place, it is possible to go one level higher in terms of physical tolerance genes.

Physical Tolerance Genes include:

  • Genes that influence oxidative stress (direct effect of exercise on the body's ability to function)
  • Genes affecting inflammatory factors (endocrine function)
  • Genes affecting metabolism (production of neurotransmitters, e.g. maintenance of one's own species-specific motor level)
  • Genes affecting tissue endurance (the ability of soft tissues to withstand an exercise load)
  • Genes affecting nutrient function (the effect of nutrient deficiencies on previous ones)
  • Genes related to the removal of harmful substances (the ability to remove harmful substances that have entered the body)

Suitable test: DNA Core

Where the test is done: The test can be done at home.

Where to take the sample: Blood spot (from the tip of a finger).

How to interpret the test result: When the results are ready, you will receive a test report on your provider's portal. For more insight into gene interpretation, read the book: "Athlete's Physique: Genes Behind Performance".

Where to order the test: Nordic Labs (from Denmark) offers a test called DNA Core. You can get this test from the link below:
